Safety Tips
Never operate a microwave empty, it could burn out. Keep a glass of water in the oven as a protection.
Remove supermarket wraps before defrosting food.
Cook foods immediately after defrosting.
Arrange food to ensure even heating. Cut food into uniform pieces. If sizes differ, place thick parts towards the outer edge where they will absorb more microwaves.
Use microwave-safe dishes. Do not use packaging cartons such as margarine containers for cooking, as they may buckle when heated.
Microwave-safe plastic wrap used as a cover should not touch food. Remove wrap away from your face to avoid steam, which can burn.
Halfway through cooking, turn container and reposition on the turntable for even cooking. Stir foods, and turn over large items.
Allow standing time after microwaving is completed to finish off the cooking.
Use pot-holders as containers get hot from the heat of the food.
Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours of cooking.
